Biography

Avril Joy is an award-winning novelist, short story writer and poet. Her work has been shortlisted in competitions including, the Bridport, the Manchester Prize for Fiction and The Raymond Carver Short Story Prize. In 2012 her story Millie and Bird, won the inaugural Costa Short Story Award. Her latest novel, Sometimes a River Song, published by Linen Press, won a 2017 People’s Book Prize. In 2019 her poem Skomm won the York Literary Festival Competition and appeared in the Forward Prize Anthology. Her first poetry collection, Going in With Flowers, in which she reflects on her prison experiences was published by Linen Press in 2019 and her novella and short story collection, this One Wild Place, was published by Linen Press in 2021.
